Learners will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of vehicles. This qualification covers all aspects of health & safety working environment, selecting and issuing vehicle parts, receiving and storing parts, processing customer orders and payments using information technology, and enable learners to help customers choose products, provide advice and support, and maximise produce sales.

  Unit Rationale

  This is an ESP course designed to meet the specific purposes of trainees serving in the automotive industry. This course adopts a theme based approach where the participants learn all four skills – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and these skills get equal weightage. Four topics - most important and relevant to automotive industry have been selected for this course and the teaching of the four skills centers on them.

  Learning Outcomes

  The Learner will:

  • Be able to exchange Greetings & personal information, listen to recordings & extract general & specific information about people and companies, scan a short text for specific details & write a guided paragraph on a company or its Personnel .
  • Be able to give opinion on cars, listen to recordings for general & specific car features, identify features and parts of a car from a short text and describe cars and their features in short paragraphs.
  • Be able to discuss safety features of a car, listen and extract general and specific information on safety features of a car, identify safety features of a vehicle from a short text and describe safety features of a vehicle in a short paragraph.
  • Be able to explain steps for changing/fixing an item in a car, listen and extract general and specific information related to Car Safety, analyze a Manual related to Automotive Industry and write short paragraphs on a process like changing or fixing an item in a car.
  • Be able to describe key features of car models, listen to recordings for general and specific information related to Automotive Dealerships, read Dealer Advertisements and answer questions and write paragraphs/emails related to Car Dealership.
  • Deal with customer problems, listen to recordings and extract general and specific information Personal Communication, read articles on Interpersonal Communication and answer questions and respond to customer email queries or prepare invoices.
  • Be able to answer customer queries, listen to recordings for general and specific information and write Order Letters and Acknowledgements.
  • Be able to attend to Customer requests, listen and extract general and specific information from recordings related to Spare Parts Management, read, analyze and transfer information from short articles and write short paragraphs on Spare Parts Management/Complete a Spare Parts Inventory.

  Unit Rationale

  This unit aims to develop and broaden further candidates understanding of the principles of ICT, to support their study of other units in the Level 2 extended diploma. To promote interest and understanding the use of ICT should be applied to motor vehicle applications wherever possible. Candidates should use computers to develop their understanding of the principles and gain confidence with applications and ICT terminology. The unit will provide a progression route to the Level 3 extended diploma.

  This unit aims to broaden candidates understanding of mathematics to support their study of other units in the Level 3 extended diploma. To promote interest and understanding calculations should be applied to motor vehicle applications wherever possible. Candidates should solve problems in each topic, both with and without the use of calculators, to develop their understanding of basic principles and gain confidence with mathematical tasks.
